Unique Deaths and Challenges

Overview: This workshop presents a wide array of unexpected lessons from 9/11, the tsunami, Columbine and other major events.

Goals: To help administrators and team members prepare their building staff to handle major crisis without outside assistance. Often with major events, help will be directed to places other than the schools (hospitals, city government, agencies upon which the whole community is depending) so schools need to be able to manage on their own through the entire unfolding and beginning recovery of the event.

Intended audience: Administrators, counselors, school psychologists and social workers, nurses, teachers, clerical people, bi-lingual aides, Rapid Response and Flight Team Members and others.

Content: Specific lessons learned and examples from the field to illustrate each one.

Prerequisites: None, although Flight Team Training and Catastrophic Events training is helpful.

Related materials: Catastrophic Events Resource Manual recommended. Handouts provided.

Recomended materials: Crisis Resource Manual
